This Precious Alchemy is reader-supported. I would be honored if you considered becoming a free or paid subscriber.
Recently, I’ve been struggling with uncertainty and mental exhaustion so this week is another experimental post mixing things up a little. I’d like to keep writing here, but I often get hijacked by the fear that I’m calling into a void. Do my words make it into your inbox? Do you read the words? Do they give you any insight or companionship? Digital connection is so very strange. One can never know how much connection truly exists. If you ever feel the urge, I’d love for you to share my work or click over to the Substack app and hit the heart button.
But, that’s beside the point. Today’s post is meant to be all about the month of May! The glorious month of May!
I’ve pulled some cards from various decks to give support if needed. The cards were pulled with the intention of enhancing your life throughout the month so please do come back to them over the next few weeks and reflect on the wisdom they might provide over time. Things change. You may find some new wisdom at a later date.
Remember, whatever a card sparks in you is meaningful. Always go with your instincts over what I might say.
A CARD FOR COURAGE
The Star from the Tarot de Carlotydes
What is your North Star, your reason for being? Your sine qua non?1 Hold fast. Hold tight. Follow that spark of light wherever it leads you. There is such strife in the world right now. Much that seems without reason or end. It might feel natural to give up hope and burrow your head in the sand. Instead, think of what guides you. Why are you here? What matters most? Do the hard thing. There is a way through. The North Star will never falter nor change its direction. It is calling you to follow and to trust.
A CARD FOR INTIMACY
The Trapeze Swinger from Pleasure Alchemy
Let go. Take a leap of faith. Some new avenue toward intimacy is calling. What does intimacy mean for you, specifically? At this time in your life? Exploring new intimacy may feel scary and uncertain but remember that like any good trapeze artist, you’ve been building strength and skill your entire life. You can trust your instincts! You already know what feels good and right. Let yourself expand into new territory. Nothing happens in isolation. Even a leap of faith.
A CARD FOR EASE
Awake from Earth Blessings Oracle Cards
Have you been going through the motions? Forgetting what used to bring you joy? Turn off the phone. Put down the work. Be here now. Wake up to the beauty! Yes, there is great ugliness in the world. But alongside ugliness there is beauty as well. You are allowed to see both. Beauty will fill your cup so that you can go out and do the difficult things.
A CARD FOR CHANGE
The Wolf & the Rose Hip from Woodland Wardens
As you make change this month, imagine that you are accompanied by a powerful ally—a wolf companion who offers protection and support. Hold that sense of protection and solidarity close. Wolves live in extended, protective packs.2 Rose hips are great immune boosters high in antioxidants and vitamin C, and as they belong to the rose they are also associated with love. Let your love be fierce. Let it extend to cover and protect those you care about. Make change knowing that you are accompanied by visible and invisible allies.
A CARD FOR INSPIRATION
And there I was…SURROUNDED from Morgan’s Tarot
Morgan’s Tarot is always a riot. And so apropos! If you’re feeling burnt out or uninspired, go outside! What can the natural world teach you about resilience, inspiration, beauty, perseverance? You may think you’ve exhausted all your avenues for inspiration and new energy. But have you really been looking in the right directions? Remember that there may be right and there may be wrong, but in between these two there is also so much more. Binaries are stupid. Don’t become trapped by binaries. You are surrounded by possibility.
Latin phrase meaning without which, nothing.
I read recently that the idea of wolves as having a dominance hierarchy re alpha, beta, etc. is a false premise because wolves in captivity behave differently than wolves in the wild. Something to think about.
